Compact, flexible and intensive program
Tailored programs for those busy schedules
Multidisciplinary program inclusions
Addiction manifests itself in many ways and the effects are felt far beyond just the physical symptoms. This is why our addiction program provides holistic, multidisciplinary care. Designed based on our medical, psychological, nutritional, and physical pillars of recovery, this wrap-around approach to healthcare is what makes our addiction program so unique.
From a medical perspective, our GPs, psychiatrist, and addiction medicine specialist are here to support you through the physical symptoms of withdrawal or provide inpatient options for detox if that is required. Under their supervision and consultation, they may advise on medication changes, replacement therapy options and relapse prevention.
From a psychological perspective, our team talks about addiction as ‘ritualised compulsive comfort-seeking’. More often than not, substances and behaviours are used to numb the pain of experiences, childhood trauma and pressures of life. Our psychological pillar of addiction treatment is designed to understand the why behind turning to substances and behaviours as a coping mechanism. When addiction treatment for alcohol, other substances and behaviours addresses these triggers below the surface, that’s when change happens.
From a nutritional and physical perspective, our team focus on firstly restoring balance to your nutritional status and body composition as well as your routines and habits that may have been lost due to addiction. From there, they will work with you to create sustainable, healthy coping mechanisms and strategies in the form of diet and exercise.
“Many people opt for one of our day programs because they want the flexibility of getting treatment without putting their life on pause, prefer privacy to group therapy, and want immediate access to hard to get medical care without spending hours driving around to different specialists.”

Each of our program inclusions have been intentionally designed to provide you with the most comprehensive understanding of your health, your coping mechanisms, your performance, and your goals. An initial assessment will inform how each practitioner will tailor their sessions based on where you are now and where you want to be. The different perspectives provided by each practitioner and their specialities adds to our wrap-around approach to healthcare.
More information about each program inclusion, their benefits and what you will take away from each session are below.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty which aims to diagnose, prevent, and treat mental health concerns. Psychiatrists use a variety of methods during their consultations, including counselling, prescription medications, pathology tests, and physical examinations, to determine the most effective treatment for patients who are living with mental health conditions or working to overcome substance misuse or abuse.
During your program, our psychiatrist may request you undertake a MyDNA test. The MyDNA test analyses the DNA of an individual patient and pharmacogenomics. The MyDNA test is a reliable way of assisting practitioners in selecting safe and effective medications for their patients based on each patient’s unique genetic makeup.
On arrival, every patient attends a consultation with one of our trusted general practitioners. GPs ensure patients are in a safe and stable state for the commencement of their programs and provide guidance regarding any other relevant concerns.
The Banyans Health Plus ensures individuals experiencing addiction or dependency concerns are safe and well supported as they move towards long-lasting recovery. Dr Christian Rowan is an Addiction Medicine Specialist and provides medical guidance to the support team and patients throughout their recovery programs. Dr Rowan also advises patients with regards to relapse prevention in order to encourage long lasting change.
Psychology is the science of understanding how people think, feel, behave and learn. Although all people are inherently unique, humans tend to respond in similar ways to similar circumstances.
As a type of treatment, psychology can take many different approaches, as guided by your therapist. These approaches may include:
A typical psychology session is founded in conversation between the patient and therapist. Depending on the psychological approach, you may also complete a number of activities, imagery exercises or meditations.
Benefits of psychology
The purpose of psychology at The Banyans is to help you better understand your thoughts, behaviours and circumstances. It is also oriented to finding solutions to your problems. A significant portion of your psychological treatment will be focused on developing realistic, healthy and practical strategies for the future.
Nutrition is essential for everyone. Nutritional health contributes to your body’s everyday functioning, detoxification processes, immune function, energy production, mood balancing, stress regulation and sleep. Gut health influences access to nutrition, your brain chemistry, and behaviour; with your gut microbiota responsible for 60-90% of your serotonin and dopamine production. These two neurotransmitters underlie feelings of wellbeing and happiness.
Nutritional therapy involves a thorough nutrition status assessment using pathology and specialist testing and consideration of your health and lifestyle history. A personalised care plan is then tailored to your individual deficiencies and dietary preferences, thus encouraging long term gut health, overall health and recovery.
Generally, each patient undergoes pathology testing, the DNA Life test and Microba Stool test. These tests examine patient-specific genetic markers that can identify treatments that are more likely to work as intended, not have an effect, or cause a negative effect and practical changes that can be made to achieve an improvement of health through gut microbiome analysis.
Our physical health team is led by exercise physiologists, who design individual exercise plans for each patient at The Banyans Health Plus. Your plan will consider your current level of physical fitness, mobility, flexibility and other existing conditions. Body measurements (such as lean muscle mass and percentage of body fat) are taken at the beginning and end of your program to track your progress.
An exercise physiologist will then work with you to activate your individual exercise plan. These sessions will motivate and inspire you to adopt healthy exercise habits and will also grow healthy lifestyle leadership and discipline.
Benefits of exercise physiology
Stretching, twisting and weight-bearing exercises help the body to function effectively, allowing it to eliminate toxins and promote wellness. When breathing techniques are incorporated into the practice the body becomes invigorated and alert, but also calmer.
Benefits of yoga
Physical benefits of yoga also include increased muscle tone and core strength, which is important as we age. Yoga can reduce your risk of injury, help with managing stress, along with increase concentration, strength, flexibility, stamina and balance.
During your program, our Wellbeing Educator will go through the Facets of Wellbeing Curriculum with you. The Facets of Wellbeing help you explore the six dimensions of wellbeing and what that looks like in the context of your own life. As part of the sessions, you will score your personal wellbeing and satisfaction on each scale, and develop an action plan for improvement.
The SMART Recovery curriculum contains practical and helpful tools as well as techniques which can be used in your everyday life and for the rest of your life. The curriculum will assist in building and maintaining motivation, coping with urges, problem solving and ultimately achieving lifestyle balance.
Mindfulness gives us the skill to focus our attention on what is important. It shows that you choose how you respond to a situation when feeling overwhelmed, helping you to manage your emotions. Each mindfulness session will be facilitated by a Wellness Educator, who will take you through the exercise step-by-step.
Whether it be business, family, relationships, or important decisions, being mindful helps us come to better conclusions and outcomes. Mindfulness helps us to choose how we respond rather than reacting impulsively.
In other mental health and addiction treatment options, you are often left to coordinate your own care. While hardworking healthcare staff send referrals and reports, they are often deprived of the scheduled time to sit down with everyone who is providing your care to discuss what you need. At Health Plus, we have designed programs where clinicians have the time to consult with you and your other treating practitioners. This scheduled time means that our clinicians are supporting you as part of a whole person model of care and collaborating to discuss your concerns, progress and treatment.
We also provide health concierge services to develop your schedule, make the bookings with practitioners, organise your catering, and ensure you have all you need. It’s healthcare with you at the centre.
The Addiction Day Program involves input and a coordinated approach from an expert team of professionals during the program. This team includes a general practitioner, psychiatrist, addiction medicine specialist, registered nurse, psychologist, nutritionist or dietitian, exercise physiologist, wellness coach, and yoga therapist.
The Addiction Day Program runs for one-day per week over eight weeks. Each day, you will have between five and seven sessions with our degree-qualified, registered team of professionals.
Our team has experience providing addiction treatment for:
Our programs provide a structure to your treatment so that you can be assured that every aspect of your health is being addressed. However, each therapy delivered is tailored to you and your needs. This means that whatever you are struggling with – our addiction program can support you.
Our Addiction Day Program is for those looking for one-on-one, comprehensive addiction treatment that causes minimal disruption to their life and routine.
We cater for ages 16 and above, primarily providing addiction treatment for Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
No. We are a self-referral facility which means you don’t need a referral from a practitioner. We have our own team of GPs, psychiatrists and other professionals who will assess each person before commencing an addiction program.
However, we do accept referrals from GPs, psychiatrists, and other professionals. If your treating practitioner would like to provide a referral, they can do so here.
Safe and supervised withdrawal from substances is paramount to our team. Depending on your circumstances, there may be a number of options for detox – both inpatient and outpatient options.
Your GP may be able to supervise you detoxing from home. We recommend you speak with your GP about whether this could be an option for you. We can also organise a time for you to speak with our GPs if you currently don’t have one. There are several services which can also provide home detoxes under the supervision of doctors and nurses who offer daily check ins.
If an inpatient detox is the best option for you, our team can provide referrals for inpatient detox at a local private hospital.
Please contact our Intake Team who will liaise with the Clinical Team to provide appropriate referrals and pathways for detox.
The Addiction Day Program runs on a Monday and Tuesday, excluding public holidays. Your program will generally consist of five to seven sessions each week with your team. Appointments for these sessions are generally between 9am and 5pm.
Many people who choose to do our addiction program already have a treating team – whether that be a psychologist, psychiatrist, GP or another practitioner. The difference about the addiction program is the coordinated approach to treatment. Each practitioner has their own specialties and offer a unique perspective to help you address your treatment. Our team also have regular case coordination meetings to ensure your needs, goals and progress are being addressed.
Unfortunately, very little of your program at The Banyans Health Plus may be covered by private health insurance. Our program is not a hospital, and private health insurance does not currently cover private treatment or recovery facilities in Australia.
Some guests can treat a program as a business expense, depending on your circumstance. Other guests look into accessing their superannuation to fund a program.
The Addiction Day Program is $27,495 for the eight-week outpatient program. Longer programs may be available depending on our availability.
