Investing in the care of our own mental wellbeing is foundational to a life that allows for joy, connectedness and purpose. However, in the bustle and demands of our everyday lives, it’s all too easy to lose sight of what it means to truly care for yourself on both a physical and mental level.

With an estimated 284 million suffering from anxiety and 265 million people suffering from depression globally (The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation), inaction on mental health presents a danger not only to ourselves but to our wider communities.

The Banyans has a rich history of helping individuals find freedom and healing from mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety and depression. Delivering medically oriented programs via research-based therapies, The Banyans works with people experiencing depression and anxiety, chronic stress and burnout, drug and alcohol dependency and addiction, eating disorders, and other co-occurring or additional conditions. Through individually tailored approaches focused on each individual’s unique needs and experiences, The Banyans provide expert-led support that enables people to experience the fullness of life again.

No two guests or patients of The Banyans have the same needs or circumstances. That’s why so much of our work is individualised, offering multiple ways to engage with our team’s treatments and recovery plans. With both Residential Programs and Day Programs on offer at our Brisbane location, we’ve developed pathways that serve those looking for longer, immersive programs and those with smaller time capacities.

Residential Programs

The Banyans’ Residential Programs are intensive programs in which the participant stays at The Banyans Residence for the duration of the program. The length of time these programs run can range from a 7-14 day ‘Rest and Refresh’ Residential Program to a more extensive Comprehensive Residential Program.

Patients can find residential treatment programs that treat various issues, including depression and anxiety, chronic stress and burnout, drug and alcohol dependency, eating disorders and more. Based on a biopsychosocial assessment framework, our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to treat issues from a medical, emotional, physical and nutritional perspective.

Participants in The Banyans’ Residential Program can receive support from an expert team that includes psychiatrists, addiction medicine specialists, eating disorders, psychologists, nutritionists or dieticians, exercise physiologists, registered nurses, and a wide range of allied health and therapy practitioners. With programs able to be tailored to the participant’s individual needs, each program’s structure is also dependent on the desired outcomes and the specific issues that have led to participation.

The strength of these Brisbane-based Residential Programs lies in the high level of individualisation offered within their structure. No two patients are treated alike, with a high degree of focus on therapeutic inclusions that are delivered in a one-on-one environment.

Guests are not only able to access expert-led treatment plans and high-quality care but are invited to enjoy the peace and luxury of The Banyans Health and Wellness Residence. With 13 acres encompassing the property, there’s no shortage of spaces to rest, relax and rejuvenate throughout the residential stay.

For those who may not be able to take an extended period of time away from home or work, The Banyans can provide more flexible treatment through a wide range of services, including our Day Program.

Day Programs

The Banyans’ team has designed several Day Programs offered at The Banyans Health Plus in Bowen Hills.

Running for a period of 6-8 weeks, these Day Programs see a range of practitioner and health care services streamlined into a single day’s attendance per week. This gives participants the freedom to gain necessary support and treatment for mental health conditions while remaining able to participate in concurrent work and family life (and living at home during treatment).

Day Programs work to address the same issues, illnesses or needs as Residential Programs, catering to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, chronic stress, burnout and more.

The team at the Brisbane-based location brings decades of experience into their treatments. With practitioners including psychiatrists, psychologists, specialist practitioners, nutritionists or dieticians, physiologists, nurses and allied health and therapy practitioners, the treatments offered are as customisable as needed to serve each participant’s needs fully.

Should a Residential Program have certain barriers to entry for a patient (such as distance or time away from home), a customised Day Program offers robust, holistic treatment within a consistent and supportive environment. With our Bowen Hills location providing easy access from Brisbane city and each Day Program rolling out over one day per week, Day Programs offer a flexible and effective alternative to a residential stay.

‘The rising enquiries regarding mental health, dependency and wellbeing are concerning – we developed our Day Programs to be more accessible and fit around the life of a busy person because no one deserves to go untreated,’ shares Kerri-Anne Dooley, Director of Nursing at The Banyans Health Plus.

‘Our treatment programs are delivered over six to eight weeks, depending on the program needed, with patients coming in once per week, seeing multiple practitioners each day. We encourage Australians to reach out if they are struggling with any health issues, particularly if you are a busy professional, a working parent, or simply struggling to prioritise your health.’

Which one is for you?

The Banyans serve a wide range of individual needs and experiences through both our Residential Programs and Day Programs. With each program designed to facilitate recovery and sustainability through customised treatment plans, the choice of an in-house Residential Program or a one-day-per-week Day Program creates flexibility for those looking to access holistic mental health care and support.

The major difference between a Residential Program and a Day Program that’s worth considering is that Residential Programs offer more intensive support for people who tend to have more complex needs. However, Day Programs offer convenience and flexibility, making treatment available to those who would otherwise be unable to access it. This may be due to them needing to take time off work or step away from family to engage with a Residential Program.

Conclusion

Ultimately, an awareness of your needs and circumstances will define whether a Residential Program or a Day Program is the best fit. With expert support and a wide range of practitioners working together for healing, each program offers a rich opportunity to invest in your mental health, working towards a future marked by recovery.
