Given that there is a strong connection between being in nature and health, it makes sense that our own personal wellness is connected to the health of our surroundings.

It might or might not come as a surprise you to learn that our environment plays a part in our wellness! Such benefits including lower blood pressure, heart rate, cortisol levels, lower sympathetic nerve activity, and alleviating symptoms of stress and depression. We therefore need to take steps to ensure that our environment is well taken care of.

According to The National Wellness Institute (, environmental wellness “is about caring for our surroundings and treating the things we need to consume with responsibility”. It involves being aware of the resources we use and taking steps to limit harmful impact on the environment. The National Wellness Institute has created a five-dimensional model of environmental wellness, which involves:

Reduce – Reducing what we use, such as electricity, in order to avoid overuse of resources.

Reuse – Reusing what we are able to, such as aluminum water bottles, prevents unnecessary waste.

Recycle – What cannot be reused should be recycled. Recycling cuts down on the waste that ends up in landfills by giving new life to discarded materials like plastics and metals.

Repurpose – Repurposing involves using a product for another purpose whenever possible, such as composting.

Renew – Renewing involves replacing what we consume. When we participate in this step, we change from environmental consumers to sustainers. Planting another tree after one has been cut down, for example, limits our impact on the environment.

The Banyans is committed to environmental wellness at every level of our organisation. Wherever possible, we use materials and products that are locally, sustainably, and responsibly created. This is especially true in our kitchen. All meals that are provided for guests at The Banyans are created by our highly experienced chefs.

Our chefs are passionate about creating delicious and nutritious food using produce that is locally and ethically sourced at every stage of production. They do this by developing relationships with local farmers and implementing zero waste methods. All of this comes together to mean that guests can feel secure in the knowledge that their stay at The Banyans Wellness Residence is supporting local businesses, farmers, and seeks to continually minimise impact on the environment.

Designed for integrated restoration, and with an expert team of therapists, health practitioners and wellness coaches, The Banyans Wellness Residence is a place where body and soul prosper in an environment of rest, wellness, and inspired living.
