This intentional combination of medical, psychological, and physical therapies has been designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your health, coping mechanisms, performance, and goals for moving forward.
An initial assessment informs how each practitioner will tailor their sessions based on where you are now and where you want to be. Therapeutic collaboration between the different practitioners with their varying perspectives and areas of speciality is what substantiates The Banyans’ unique ‘wrap-around’ approach to healthcare.
To learn more about the benefits of each program inclusion, explore the tabs below.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty which aims to diagnose, prevent, and treat mental health concerns. Psychiatrists use a variety of methods during their consultations, including counselling, prescription medications, pathology tests, and physical examinations, to determine the most effective treatment for patients who are living with mental health conditions or working to overcome substance misuse or abuse.
During your program, our psychiatrist may request you undertake a MyDNA test. The MyDNA test analyses the DNA of an individual patient and pharmacogenomics. The MyDNA test is a reliable way of assisting practitioners in selecting safe and effective medications for their patients based on each patient’s unique genetic makeup.
On arrival, every patient attends a consultation with one of our trusted general practitioners. GPs ensure patients are in a safe and stable state for the commencement of their programs and provide guidance regarding any other relevant concerns. Our GP will assess your medical history and program suitability and identify treatment for any concomitant conditions prior to engaging the program.
The program will be delivered by your Clinical Nutritionist/Dietitian, who will be your concierge for all of your clinical support and health management throughout the program.
Your Clinical Nutritionist / Dietitian will conduct an initial screening for clinical history, measurements, and pathology tests prior to commencement of the program. They will then discuss the dietary intervention and assess the following:
Providing nutritional education for health beyond weight loss, they will also facilitate goal setting with you, enabling you to reach your health goals.
Psychology is the science of understanding how people think, feel, behave, and learn. When it comes to eating disorders, psychology plays an important role in our behaviour and relationship with food. Your psychologist will work with you to develop individualised strategies and address influences on your food choices.
As a type of treatment, psychology can take many different approaches, as guided by your therapist. These approaches may include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Positive psychology
Performance-based psychology
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy
Psychodynamic therapy and more
A typical psychology session is founded in conversation between the patient and therapist. Depending on the psychological approach, you may also complete a number of activities, imagery exercises or meditations.
Benefits of psychology
Adding psychology to your eating disorder treatment can help you better understand your thoughts, behaviours and circumstances. It is also oriented to finding solutions to your problems. A significant portion of your psychological treatment will be focused on developing realistic, healthy and practical strategies to overcome your eating disorder.
Your exercise physiologist will design an individual exercise plan for each patient – considering your current level of physical fitness, mobility, flexibility and other existing conditions. Adapting the appropriate level of physical activity throughout the course, the program will begin with low grade movement and heart rate.
Stretching, twisting and weight-bearing exercises help the body to function effectively, allowing it to eliminate toxins and promote wellness. When breathing and mindfulness techniques are incorporated into the practice the nervous system becomes calmer.
The physical benefits of yoga also include increased muscle tone and core strength, which is important as we age. Yoga can reduce your risk of injury, help with managing stress, along with increased concentration, strength, flexibility, stamina and balance.
In other mental health and addiction treatment options, you are often left to coordinate your own care. While hardworking healthcare staff send referrals and reports, they are often deprived of the scheduled time to sit down with everyone who is providing your care to discuss what you need. At Health Plus, we have designed programs where clinicians have the time to consult with you and your other treating practitioners. This scheduled time means that our clinicians are supporting you as part of a whole person model of care and collaborating to discuss your concerns, progress and treatment.
We also provide health concierge services to develop your schedule, make the bookings with practitioners, organise your catering, and ensure you have all you need. It’s healthcare with you at the centre.
During your program, our Wellbeing Educator will go through the Facets of Wellbeing Curriculum with you. The Facets of Wellbeing help you explore the six dimensions of wellbeing and what that looks like in the context of your own life. As part of the sessions, you will score your personal wellbeing and satisfaction on each scale, and develop an action plan for improvement.
Mindfulness gives us the skill to focus our attention on what is important. It shows that you choose how you respond to a situation when feeling overwhelmed, helping you to manage your emotions. Each mindfulness session will be facilitated by a Wellness Educator, who will take you through the exercise step-by-step.
Whether it be business, family, relationships, or important decisions, being mindful helps us come to better conclusions and outcomes. Mindfulness helps us to choose how we respond rather than reacting impulsively.
