Psychology and Psychiatry
Psychology and psychiatry involve some “talking therapy” due to the fact that a lot of treatments are a discussion-based therapy between a patient and specialist, such as a Psychologist or registered Psychiatrist. Psychology works to treat many psychological issues and Psychiatry assists with psychiatric disorders and medication. They are both some of the most common treatment methods for mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and addictions.
There are many different variations of methods used within the fields of psychology and psychiatry and therapists can specialise in certain treatment methods.
Depending on your own personal requirements and issues, different psychology methods of treatment or psychiatric approaches may be more beneficial than others.
Through a good working relationship between the client and therapist, together they can work to resolve many issues and destructive patterns to help the client to lead a normal and productive life once again.

Psychiatric and Psychological Help For Healing at The Banyans Rehabilitation Centre
Emotional wellbeing and mental health are important factors of the healing process at The Banyans, it is for this reason that we will only employ highly experienced and qualified psychologists to work with our residents. Our therapists are committed to delivering high-quality, supportive, respectful, and compassionate therapies to encourage our clients to grow and change in their own unique way.
At The Banyans, we always aim to understand the underlying issues surrounding your presenting condition.
As an example, depression can stem from traumatic events from a person’s childhood or perhaps even from other conditions such as anxiety. These issues can lead to burnout and a feeling of being overwhelmed and unhappy in daily life.
Holistic Drug Rehab for Addictions, Depression and More
The therapists you work with at The Banyans help you to understand new skills in a safe environment. You can gain a new vision into your relationships, how you interact with the world around you and how you behave. Above all, you will be able to find inspiration and hope for a life you want to live in the future.
Music Therapy
Music Therapy is the creative use of music to improve and maintain health and wellbeing. Music Therapy differs from music education or entertainment as it engages the individual through music to achieve particular non-musical goals. At the Banyans, a range of active and receptive Music Therapy techniques are used to attain specific wellness outcomes. Guests have a personalised music therapy program developed by our registered Music Therapist, Charé, that is tailored to their specific wellness needs.
Benefits of music therapy include opportunities for social engagement and participation, communication, self-expression and relaxation.
Music therapy has been used in Australia as a research-based profession for over 40 years.
Equine Therapy
One of the unique inclusions at The Banyans is onsite equine therapy, provided by an EAGALA accredited Psychiatrist as well as an Equine Specialist who has over 6000 hours of experience.
Dr. Anja Kriegeskotten FRANZCP, part of the therapeutic team at The Banyans Health and Wellness Residence, explains the benefits of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy:
“Horses have finely tuned senses such as hearing, smell, and touch. In a herd, horses sense each other’s feelings and naturally mirror this to each other via body language.
This natural ability of horses is used in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy by introducing a person to a small herd of horses.
By becoming a guest member of the herd, the horses will then naturally reflect what is going on for that person emotionally at this time.
The experience occurs without words and therefore, there is no risk of miscommunication via spoken language.”
Underlying or subconscious emotions tend to bother us more than the ones we are aware of and can work through verbally. When properly interpreted by an Equine Specialist and Mental Health Professional, the behavior of the horses can reflect our feelings to us, bringing our subconscious emotions to the surface and we can process them more effectively and file them into memory.
Studies have shown that Equine Assisted Psychotherapy can often help people in fewer sessions than traditional in-office therapies.
The person relates to horses rather than people, which can be easier for some people, particularly those who have experienced interpersonal trauma.”
