The Banyans is a private residence set in a quiet hinterland, designed from the outset to support a longer stay for mental health retreat. 10 suites in total, each with its own ensuite, oriented toward views of the surrounding ranges. A pool and grounds for the hours between sessions. A fully equipped gym for exercise physiology and personal training. A private cinema for the evenings. Chef-led nutrition designed around your clinical plan rather than around a fixed menu.
The property is unbranded from the road. The residence is small by design with a maximum of 10 guests at any time, each in their own private suite, and all treatment is delivered one-on-one. You are not in shared sessions with other guests during your stay.
For guests whose lives do not pause easily — who run companies, families, public profiles — the residence is built around what makes a stay possible. A personal concierge handles requests and errands. Private transfer can be arranged from Sydney. Communication preferences are managed in advance. For guests who require additional measures, discreet security arrangements can be discussed during pre-arrival planning.
Where clinical suitability allows, pets can stay with you at the residence, subject to a few practical requirements. For some guests, particularly those with established routines and dependents at home, being able to bring a dog removes one of the reasons not to come.
Sydney is a small city at the top. Executives, founders, board members, public figures, and the people connected to them often share waiting rooms, clinicians, and social circles. For guests who need to step away from work, family, and a recognisable life without anyone noticing they have, being treated outside their own city is part of the value. The Intake team can arrange private transfer to our residence in the secluded hinterland setting from NSW, including coordination of private air travel where preferred.
A one-size-fits-all approach to complex presentations is rarely effective.
From your initial enquiry, our experienced team partners with you to design and continually refine a personalised treatment pathway, supported by an integrated, multidisciplinary approach for sustained outcomes.

View the mental health disorders we treat
An individualised path to recovery addressing the psychosocial and physical drivers of addiction. With integrated medical care including psychiatry, SMART Recovery, and an optional hospital-supported detox, we support you in regaining control, stability and meaningful connections.
A compassionate, evidence-based program led by an extensively published GP with a clinical focus in eating disorders. With enhanced medical, nutritional and nursing support, we help restore your relationship with food, body and self-worth.
A mental health retreat with a setting like this can come in two forms. There are wellness retreats in beautiful places that offer a week of yoga and meditation, and there are clinically governed facilities that offer serious treatment in less considered environments. The Banyans was built to be both.
The clinical team is led by a consultant psychiatrist. Depending on your program, up to 14 clinicians may be involved in your care, including psychiatrists, general practitioners, registered nurses, psychologists, dietitians, exercise physiologists, and the specialists who deliver equine-assisted therapy, art therapy, music therapy, and addiction medicine. The facility is accredited against the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, the standards that apply to Australian hospitals.
Every program is delivered one-on-one. No group therapy at any stage. The composition of your week is shaped by what you and your team identify as the priorities, not by a fixed timetable.
For NSW guests who want a private setting and serious clinical care in the same place, that combination is what brings them here.
Your day is built around four to six one-on-one sessions, Monday to Friday. The sessions are scheduled across psychological therapy, psychiatric review where indicated, medical care, dietetics, and exercise physiology. There is no group therapy at any stage. The composition of your week is shaped by what you and your clinical team identify as the priorities, not by a standard timetable.
The hours between sessions belong to you. The pool, the grounds, the gym, the cinema, your suite. Time to walk, to swim, to read, to rest. Chef-led meals served when you choose to eat them, designed around the nutrition plan your dietitian has agreed with you.
The other difference, less visible from the outside, is how the team works behind your program.
Your psychiatrist, psychologist, medical doctor, dietitian, exercise physiologist, and nursing team meet regularly to discuss your program — what is working, what needs adjusting, and how the disciplines are interacting. You do not need to brief each clinician individually or carry information between them. They carry it for you.
In practice, this means the dietitian knows what came up in psychology that morning. The exercise physiologist knows what the GP found in your bloods. The psychiatrist knows what the psychologist is working on, and the plan is adjusted accordingly.
For guests who have spent years coordinating their own care across separate practitioners in NSW, having a single integrated team hold the plan is often what they comment on by the end of the first week.
Every residential mental health retreat program at The Banyans begins with a thorough understanding of you. Your history, your needs, and your goals shape every session, every day.
All programs include one-on-one sessions daily across psychological therapy, physical health, medical support, and wellbeing. Outlined below are the inclusions for our Foundations Program. For guests seeking a deeper level of clinical complexity, our Comprehensive Program builds on this foundation with advanced diagnostics and additional therapeutic inclusions.
Up to two years of structured aftercare support is available following your stay, including continued sessions with your treating clinicians and access to the day program pathway where appropriate.
For guests returning to Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, or anywhere else in NSW, the continuity is built in. The Banyans Health Plus day rehab programs are available via telehealth, meaning the clinical relationships you build during your residential stay can follow you home. You do not need to travel again to maintain the progress you have made, though some guests choose to return for a Relationship Retreat or further residential work.

The Banyans Health Plus day programs are delivered one-on-one in Brisbane inner city and available remotely, which suits NSW guests who want to continue with the same clinical foundation without leaving home or work. Eight-week programs are available for mental health, addiction, and dual diagnosis.

Building upon your program progress, our aftercare service provides personalised, ongoing support and maintained connection. Through regular Telehealth sessions, we gain a deeper understanding of your evolving needs and tailor guidance accordingly. This collaborative approach to reintegration, ensures you receive the right support for each stage of your journey.

What does the residence look like?
The Banyans is a private hinterland residence with ten suites, each with its own ensuite and views of the surrounding ranges. The grounds include a pool, gardens, a fully equipped gym used for exercise physiology and personal training, and a private cinema. The kitchen is chef-led, with menus designed around the nutrition plan your dietitian has agreed with you.
The property is unbranded from the road. The residence accommodates a maximum of ten guests at any time, and all treatment is delivered one-on-one, so you are not in shared sessions with other guests during your mental health retreat.
What does psychiatrist-led care mean at The Banyans?
The clinical team is led by a consultant psychiatrist. This means psychiatric assessment, medication review where appropriate, and oversight of the wider clinical team are part of how the program is shaped, not optional add-ons. It also means that decisions about your program are made within a clinically governed framework, with the consultant psychiatrist working alongside psychologists, medical doctors, dietitians, and exercise physiologists as a single team.
We are accredited against the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, the standards that apply to Australian hospitals and day procedure services. For a private residential mental health retreat, NSQHS accreditation is one of the clearer signals of clinical seriousness.
Why would someone in NSW travel to Queensland for mental health retreat in a private hinterland?
NSW has the largest private mental health market in Australia, and for some people one of those options will be the right choice. The Banyans is distinct in a specific way: every program is delivered one-on-one, within a private residence that accommodates only ten guests, led by a consultant psychiatrist with a multidisciplinary team of up to 14 clinicians working together around a single person.
That combination of private residential setting, psychiatric leadership, and one-on-one delivery is uncommon regardless of location. Many NSW guests come having tried other options, such as private hospitals or wellness retreats and looked for something more individualised with clearer clinical outcomes.
Can I bring my dog to The Banyans?
Where clinical suitability allows, pets can stay with you at the residence, subject to a few practical requirements. The Intake team can talk through what is involved during pre-arrival planning. For some guests, particularly those with established routines and dependents at home, being able to bring a dog removes one of the reasons not to come.
What happens with my care when I return to NSW?
Up to two years of structured aftercare is available following any residential program, including continued sessions with your treating clinicians. Through The Banyans Health Plus day programs, telehealth support is also available, meaning the clinical foundation you build at The Banyans can continue to support you once you are back in NSW.
Is mental health retreat at The Banyans claimable through private health insurance?
No. The Banyans is a self-funded private facility, and programs are not claimable through private health insurance or Medicare. Superannuation funding is available in some circumstances, and our Intake team can point you to the right information.
Third-party payment plans including DVA and NDIS are also available. The first step is a confidential conversation with the Intake team to discuss what is right for your situation.
Is The Banyans’ mental health retreat suitable for executive burnout treatment?
Many NSW guests come for what they describe as burnout, including chronic stress, sleep disturbance, declining performance, emotional exhaustion, sometimes accompanied by depression or anxiety. The integrated clinical model in our residential mental health retreat is well suited to this presentation, because burnout typically involves several systems at once: medical, psychological, nutritional, and physical.
What if I’m not sure residential stay for mental health recovery in Brisbane is the right step yet?
The first step is a confidential conversation with our Intake team. There is no obligation involved. We will take time to understand your situation and help you work out whether residential rehabilitation is the right level of care, or whether a day rehab program, an outpatient pathway, or something else may suit better.
For NSW guests, The Banyans Health Plus day programs are available via telehealth and may be a starting point if residential is not the right step today.
